Introduction to Structures

Types of structures:
Technology Notes (p 13-14)

Read the notes and underline any new or important information.

Nature refers to how a structure was created. there are only two choices.
Label the 4 items on your worksheet as either natural or manufactured (man-made).

The type of structure depends on how it was constructed.
Shell structures are usually hollow.
Frame structures have many parts.
Solid structures are just that, solid.

Purpose is always written as three words and never a combination of the choices. We always refer to the PRIMARY PURPOSE first, because some structures can do double duty.
Compare an SUV to a motorcycle.
Both can carry people (Support a Load), but the SUV is the safer vehicle in a crash (Protect an Object).
