ALTERNATIVE DEVELOPMENT

Alternative- a different way of doing something.

Equitable- reasonable and fair; everyone having the same opportunity.

Empowering- helping people to help themselves by providing conditions for them to develop their skills and abilities.

Participatory- allowing people to take part in making decisions.

Prosperity- being successful and having enough money and resources to meet one’s needs easily.

Sustainable- able to continue developing into the future without using up resources or harming the environment.

 -Alternative development is about development that does not involve industrialization and the strong use of technology to achieve wealth and prosperity- it focuses on smaller scale development that considers the needs of specific communities.

Alternative development is:

Participatory development, aims to involve local people in decisions and development plans.

-          It is better at addressing local needs than development projects that are controlled by experts from outside.

-          It uses local people’s experience and knowledge and encourages them to invest their time, energy and resources in projects.

-          Meets people’s needs now and in the future

-          Does not use up lots of resources
