25. Classification (Term 3, Week 7)

We will see how scientists have developed rules for putting different living things into different groups, based on specific similarities that they have showed. You must understand how these names will show how closely related any one member of that group is related to any other member.

Classification is based on Latin names, and you must be aware of how these names are written - where the capital letters must be, where they are underlined, etc.

The binomial system (genus and species) is an important part of classification.

Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes were important definitions to some systems. They give an indication of how massive is our population of simpler living organisms.

Be aware of how they have built up to the Five Kingdom System.

Also be aware of the Domains that some scientists refer to.

As you can see, we are looking at a number of different systems of classification. But the general concept and purpose for all of them is the same.
