Please read the notes from pages 154 to 161. Learners are requested to practice the following speech exercise:

1. Intercostal diaphramatic breathing(the prefered breathing for speech)- stand in the neutral position, relax your shoulders, breathe out through your mouth and in through your nose. Do not raise your shoulders when breathing in. Now,control the flow of breath in and out by breathing in to the count of 4 and out to the count of 4. Extend the control of the incoming and outgoing air by 6 counts and then 8. You may feel a little light headed. If this happens, then take a break and sit for while. If you can, extend the count to 16.
