9 July 2020 - Answers to Language Past Paper

Please find attached the answers to the Language Paper for Feb / March 2016. This task was given on the D6, in April. It is important to take note of your areas of weakness for this challenging genre. Consider the following in order to improve in the next examination:

Question 1

* Did you provide sufficient information in line with the mark allocation?

* Did you understand the key word in the question?

* Were you able to isolate the different parts to the question?

* What is your reason for not attempting an answer or not completing a question?

 

Question 2

* Did you understand key words in the instructions?

* Did you plan your answer?

* Did you understand the main idea / theme in the text?

* Are you able to isolate additional information, quotes and examples (These should not be included in your summary)?

 

Question 3

* Do you understand the AIDA principles of advertising?

* Are you able to match or identify how the advertiser used / failed to use the AIDA principles effectively?

* Do you understand the concepts of propaganda and emotive language?

 

Question 4

* Do you understand key features of a cartoon, such as the purpose of movement lines, different font and symbols?

* Do you understand the difference between body language and expression?

* Did you identify key words in the question?

* Are you able to identify tone, attitude words and pun?

 

Question 5

* Did you understand key words in the questions?

* Are you able to identify concepts for revision? 

 

Additional Points from the Subject Advisor

* Punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, reported speech, ambiguity and malapropism are often tested in question five.

* The texts used will often be sourced from what is trending in the news - both local and foreign, from controversial      newspapers, politics, News24,etc.  Consider the events that shook the world in 2020 e.g. coronavirus, gender based violence, racism and "Black lives matter" campaigns, spurred by the death of George Floyd amongst others.
